Prop. 62 - About This Measure

Proposition 62

This proposition would change the way the state holds both primary and general elections. Currently, all parties run candidates in the primary election. If you are registered with a political party, then you vote for their candidates in the primary. Each party sends their top candidate on to the general election, so all qualified political parties have a candidate on the ballot in the general election. Under the new system, voters in the primary could choose any candidate they wanted, regardless of party affiliation, and the two highest vote getters, regardless of party affiliation, would advance to the general election.

A related measure, Proposition 60, would maintain the current system of elections. If both measures pass, the one with the greatest number of yes votes will be implemented.
